“A Boyfriend For Christmas” was released in 2004. It stars Kelli Williams, Patrick Muldoon, and Charles Durning.
This movie is about Holly and Ryan. Holly is a social worker and Ryan is an attorney. Their paths cross when they work with the same woman. With a little magic from Santa, they are able to find love.

I know I’ve said this for the other movies but this is another one of my favorites. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen it. I just love it.
It starts when Holly and Ryan are preteens at the mall. Ryan’s sister is reluctant to go sit on Santa’s lap. Holly goes over and talks to her and takes her to Santa. When Santa asks Holly what she wants, she says a boyfriend. Christmas morning there’s a snow globe from Santa with a message that she will meet her love in twenty years when two hearts are ready. Not what Holly wants to hear.
We flash forward to the present day. Holly is a strong advocate for children and families. She is representing a family where the mother is ready to be reunited with her two children. The mother had been staying in a shelter until she got back on her feet and the children were in foster care. Unfortunately, the pro bono attorney, Ryan, who was assigned to represent the mother, lost track of time and didn’t show until it was too late.
While with her friend who is picking out a Christmas tree, Holly is dictating a letter to Ryan, reaming him out, over the phone. Ryan who is volunteering at the lot hears her. This will lead him to be dishonest with her.
We then have a Holly at home and a knock on the door. It’s Ryan with a Christmas tree. Santa, who was at the lot with Ryan, asks him to deliver the tree and be Holly’s Christmas boyfriend. He agrees but when he sees her he gives her a fake name because of the tree lot incident.
They hit it off and it’s obvious they are meant to be from the get go. They get closer and closer. They even fool her family into believing they’re together. They keep getting closer despite her ex-boyfriend Ted showing up. It doesn’t help that her brother works for Ted and her sister-in-law is pushing for Ted to help the brother advance his career.
Her parents have an annual party where Ted outs Ryan. Ted proposes, but with Santa’s urging, Holly says no and goes to Ryan.
I love their love story. I also love the Christmas magic Santa so delicately brings for them. There’s something so special about this movie. Williams and Muldoon have great chemistry and all the additional characters are played so well. It’s sweet but not overly. It’s just perfect.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the movie. Happy Viewing!
